Discover the Community | United Way Invests in Students Through TASD Care Closets
A community partnership helping meet students’ immediate needs
Some of the greatest barriers to learning happen outside the classroom. A student who does not have clean clothes, a toothbrush, or basic hygiene items may struggle to focus, participate, or feel confident walking through the school doors.
That is why partnerships like the one between United Way of Greater Texarkana and Texarkana School District matter.
During the district’s Mission Launch Convocation, Mark Bledsoe, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Texarkana, presented a $5,000 donation in support of the district’s Care Closet initiative.
This generous investment will help provide immediate assistance to students by ensuring essential items are available when needs arise.
Through Bright Futures Texarkana, Arkansas, the Care Closet initiative provides students with necessities such as:
Personal hygiene products
Clothing and shoes
School supplies
Other basic essentials
Many needs can be met within 24 hours, allowing schools to respond quickly, discreetly, and with dignity.
While these items may seem ordinary, they can have an extraordinary impact. Personal care products such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and deodorant are often difficult for families to afford and cannot be purchased using SNAP or EBT benefits.
Access to these essentials helps students feel confident, cared for, and ready to learn.
United Way’s support reflects the power of a community coming together to remove barriers for children. Every contribution helps ensure students have what they need to be successful in the classroom and beyond.
How You Can Help
The Care Closet initiative relies on the generosity of our community. You can support students by:
Donating new personal care items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, and other hygiene essentials
Donating gently used children’s clothing that is clean, free of stains or holes, and ready to wear
Making a monetary donation to purchase needed items that are not currently available
Partnering with Bright Futures to help meet student needs throughout the school year
