Ath Dir Man in suit and tie

The Texarkana Arkansas School District is proud to announce the appointment of Garett Sherman as the new Athletic Director effective July 1, 2025. With over a decade of experience in athletic leadership, coaching, and academic coordination, Mr. Sherman brings a dynamic blend of experience and energy to this vital role.

Sherman currently serves as the Athletic Director for Dulce Independent School District in New Mexico, where he oversees athletics at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. His responsibilities include game scheduling, staff hiring, departmental budget management, and ensuring compliance with athletic regulations—skills that will transition seamlessly into his new leadership role at TASD.

Throughout his career, Sherman has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering student-athlete success both on and off the field. During his tenure as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at New Mexico Highlands University, his team tied the school record for wins in the 2022-2023 season and achieved a collective GPA of 3.4 under his academic guidance.

Sherman also brings prior experience as Athletic Director at Potomac State College and the University of Maine at Fort Kent, where he implemented innovative enrollment strategies, built community support programs, and led departments through transitions and infrastructure growth.

“We are thrilled to welcome Garett Sherman to Texarkana,” said Superintendent Dr. Lloyd Jackson. “His broad experience, passion for student development, and proven leadership in both academic and athletic settings make him an exceptional fit for our district.”

Sherman holds a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision and a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education, both from Frostburg State University.

As Athletic Director, Sherman will be responsible for guiding the district’s athletic vision, supporting coaches and student-athletes, and promoting a culture of sportsmanship, academic achievement, and community engagement.

“I’m excited to join the Texarkana School District and contribute to a tradition of excellence,” said Sherman. “My goal is to build strong programs that empower student-athletes to reach their full potential, in competition and in the classroom.”
