Elementary Pull-Out (3rd-4th grade)

Parents,

Welcome to the Texarkana Arkansas Gifted and Talented Program!   We are very excited about working with your child this year. We will do our best to make it a year filled with interesting units while also working on individual skills in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.  Your student will attend class once a week for a total of 150 minutes (2 ½ hours). We are housed at College Hill 6th Grade Academy in the modular building.  Students will be will be transported to and from College Hill.  Class times are 8:30-11:00 and 12:30-2:30 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  There is a class schedule included in this packet. Students will eat lunch at their home campus.  If you child’s lunch time falls during GT class time, we have worked out a system to allow your child adequate time to eat.  If your child has to be picked up early on GT days you will need to sign them out at College Hill 6th Grade Academy, and I will notify his/her teacher.

Our  theme this year is “GT is More Fun Than a Barrel of Monkeys!”  We will start the year off with a unit entitled The Dynamics of Color.   We will do at least 4 different units this year all based around cooperation and STEM.  We try to make sure the students have ample time to complete all work in the class, but on occasion students have had to bring items home to finish.  If this is the case, we will email you directly to let you know what your child needs to complete at home. The GT department provides all basic supplies for the classroom, but from time to time we may ask for items from home.  These items are usually common recyclable items like cardboard, water bottles, etc.

Since our class time is limited, it is essential that all children come to class ready, respectful and responsible.   In order to make the best of our time, we expect all children to be on their best behavior and come to class ready to work.

Finally, enclosed you will find forms to fill out.  Please fill them out and send back with your child next week.  Students must have all forms including the permission to participate form on file in order to attend GT classes.  We will create a GT parent email list to send out information and newsletters. We find this is the most effective way to get information out to parents, since this group has students from all five campuses, and we only get to see them once a week. We will also use Remind for communication. Please join the district Remind group and the Elementary grade level remind groups. Instructions can be found in this packet as well.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.  The best way to reach us is by e-mail. Looking forward to a GREAT year!

Sincerely

Michelle Wilson Liz Carter
